February 1st is celebrated as Brigid's Day in Ireland. This has inspired me to write a little post about her!

Saint Brigid

when Ireland moved to Christianity/Catholiscism, many of the previous Pagan deities became canonised. Brigid is a great example of this as she became "Saint Brigid". There is a shrine to her in Kildare, Ireland where there remains an eternal flame in dedication. It is still commonplace to find crosses in dedication to her in many Irish homes today. Called "Saint Brigid's crosses" & are created with rushes. The belief is that they protect homes from fire. The crosses are blessed with Holy Water today!

Goddess Brigid

Modern day Pagan's, among others, continue to celebrate Brigid in her original form. Here she is the Celtic Goddess some outside of Ireland may be more familiar with. In the Pagan belief, February 1st is also celebrated and is called "Imbolc". This marks the first day of Spring and is one of the the four fire festivals in the Pagan faith.

Whatever your belief system this is a particularly powerful day to invite her into your life. Brigid is universally associated with fire so you may wish to light a candle today. Make a silent invococation to Brigid to help with any concern you have. Creative pursuits, fertility, pregnancy and childbirth are all areas Brigid can assist with.
