So the day of love has came around once again! For some of us it makes us groan and for others it is time of excitement and joy. It all depends on where we are in our lives on a particular year.
Where did Valentines Day come from?
People say that Valentine's day is the creation of greetings card companies to get more business. Yet, it is a holiday that has been celebrated since ancient Roman Times. There was a festival named Lupercalia and this was used to mark the official beginning of Spring. Boys would draw girls names from a box and even get married during this festival!! Noone heard of taking things slow?! š
Dark Beginnings..
There are some rather "dark" origins which are attributed to the day of love we celebrate in modern times. A popular story is that marriage was outlawed in the third century for certain people. In protesr, Saint Valentine (as a priest) organised and conducted them in secret. He was jailed for his crimes and ended up falling in love with the Jailers daughter (of course!). Saint Valentine was executed for his crimes. Before his death he wrote the jailer's daughter a letter signed "from your Valentine". (Familiar??) He became a martyr and was later canonised by the Church.

I hope you enjoyed reading as much as I did writing it! Who knew things were so gory when all we have is fluff and candy these days? As always, just click if you would like a personal reading and I will be happy to help!
